Dear friends,

a tragedy happened on the 8th of August in Belarus. We lost Guenter with his true friend – MD-500. We consider that this is a real loss for the World Helicopter Sport.

We published our words of sorrow on the web-site of Federation of Helicopter Sport of Russia (www.helisport.org ) , I would like to translate them for you.

“On the 8th of August during the CIS Helicopter Championship in Minsk a pilot from Germany Guenter Zimmer tragically crashed during the aerobatics performance.

High class pilot, wonderful, frank, kind hearted and humorous person – that was Guenter, an old friend and true comrade of our Team, participant of WHCs, open Championships of Russia and other European countries, veteran of the German National Helicopter team.

Guenter Zimmer – one of the most famous pilots in the world flying helicopter pilotage. His remarkable performances with his own MD-500 helicopter full of most complicated elements were always highly respected by professionals and amazed by spectators.
In the end of this August Guenter and his friend and co-pilot Lothar Oehler were planning to visit Drakino airfield to take part in 45th Russian Open. It’s unbelievable to imagine that we’ll never see Guenter again, won’t have a glass of beer together with him, won’t laugh at his jokes.

We present our most sincere condolences to Guenter’s wife – Irina Gorelysheva – helicopter sports pilot from Belarus, their son Alexander (Sashenjka), family members and relatives, to his close friends Lothar Oehler, Wolfgang Perplies and Konrad Geissler, to all the members of the German National Helicopter Team and to Helicopter Club of Germany.

Pilots do not die, they just pass away to the sky and do not come back. Immortal memory to Guenter!”

Farewell Ceremony will take place in Minsk, 14th of August. I shall be there to say last good-buy to Guenter and bring him all love and respect from the Russian pilots, judges, mechanics.
